Application System
1. The base of the system is reinforced using a full depth polyester coated galvanised steel or stainless steel bellcast bead and finished with a plastic nosing available in a limited range of colours. Line of base is usually set at DPC level.
2. 1.2mm polyester coated aluminium verge accessory with jointing collars at 2.5m centres. Range of sizes exist to suit varying insulation slab thickness.
3. Undercill or overcill extenders can be supplied in 1.2 - 3.0mm thick polyester coated aluminium with matching push fit end caps for site fabrication. Cill extenders may also be site measured by WBS technical personnel and factory fabricated with one piece welded end caps. Cill details are also available in moulded GRP or extruded GRC sections.
4. At party wall positions, the EWI system may be terminated using a full depth stop bead or an external angle bead. The render finish is returned for the full depth of the system. N.B. Where the adjoining property is also being treated, an expansion joint/movement joint bead may be needed.
5. 1200mm x 600mm x thickness insulation slabs are fixed using approved fixings.
N.B. Fixing types are selected subject to site pull out testing.
6. Insulation slabs overlap alternately at corners and are mechanically fixed 150mm in from arris and every 300mm vertically.
7. Where possible, a reduced thickness of insulation slab may be returned at opening reveals and heads dependent on window or door frame thickness. External angles are reinforced with polyester coated galvanised steel or stainless steel angle beads. Where frames are too small, mesh and render alone may be used. A contrasting colour may be used at reveals.
8. Extra mechanical fixings are used around all wall openings at 300mm centres max.
9. Alkali resistant reinforcing mesh bedded into adhesive render coat and allowed to dry for a minimum of 12 hours, but not exceeding 24 hours, before render finishing coat is applied.
10. Additional shaped pieces of mesh are bedded around all wall openings.
11. All external building corners are reinforced with polyester coated galvanised steel or stainless steel angle beads to give maximum impact resistance.
12. Dashing mortar is through coloured and can be trowel applied and dashed with a wide range of mineral aggregates, or alternatively finished with a alternative finish (such as silicone, acrylic, brick rend or brick slip).
13. The chimney may be treated to match the finish on the main walls.
14. Plinth below DPC level of the existing wall may be painted with masonry paint.
